The Met Gala 2018 – My Best and Worst Dressed List

Hi guys!

I woke up at around 11:30 in the morning to unload – drink water – then get back to bed, still in a groggy state, but my usual self would spend at least 5 minutes checking my phone for any messages and social accounts update.

I was suddenly awaken when my Instagram feed were bombarded by all the red carpet looks for the 2018 Met Gala.

Now, If you are not familiar with this event, here is a little must know information.

Your welcome by the way.

The Met Gala or formally called as the Costume Institute Gala or Met Ball is an annual fund raising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute of New York. Each year the event has a theme and all the guests will walk on the red carpet that is one of the highlights of the event.

According to Google, The Gala is widely regarded as one of the most exclusive social events in New York and one of the biggest fund raising nights in the city and is considered to be the fashion industry’s premier annual red carpet event.

In a more direct term, The Met Gala is like the Oscar’s in the fashion industry. So yes, if you wanted to be recognized you have to look flawless and same goes, to be on the spotlight, be a Fashion Police’s red target and new source of a trending meme due to a fashion meltdown, Either way, being included and arriving at The Met is huge.

Anna Wintour. Editor in Chief of Vogue Magazine. She is also the head and yearly host for The Met Gala. Fact: She is the one who implemented the now famous house rule of no selfies during the event.

I suddenly forget that I have my 6:30 p.m shift and I needed to catch more sleep, I immediately check and did a run down a list for all the celebrities on the red carpet. I also thought that this would be a perfect entry for my new blog post since I was finally convinced that I should start writing something relevant for my readers (like you, Hi! ) that everyone can relate to.

Before I share my list, the theme for this year is

Heavenly Bodies and Catholic Imagination

Best and Worst Dressed List in no particular order.

Best Dressed

Amber Heard
Designer – Carolina Herrera

Rihanna wears Mason Margiela by John Galliano

She received major backlash because of this outfit, calling it as a major offense to the Pope who were sited as the main inspiration for the design. Rihanna responded with “It feels expensive! It would be a sin not to wear it!” she told Vogue. But many religious fans disagreed, slamming the look as “disgusting” and “offensive
Kate Bosworth
Kate Bosworth is wearing Oscar dela Renta

Lana Del Rey is wearing Gucci
Jared Leto also wears Gucci
With Gucci Designer Alessandro Michelle
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen They just schooled everyone on how it should be done! They hit the red carpet with their own designs from The Row. OMG! I will always love these two!

Rosie Huntington – Whiteley wearing Ralph Lauren. This over all look is simply divine!

Kim Kardashian West wearing Versace
Stella Maxwell wears Moschino. Hands down the best column gown that surely pays homage to the theme. The simplicity of her hair and make up is much ideal since the gown has too much art and drama going on.

Amanda Seyfried is wearing Prada

Katy Perry wears Versace I am not a fan of Katy, but this is one way to pay homage to the theme and that wings is simply beautiful
Jennifer Lopez wearing Balmain
Lily Collins
Designer – Givenchy
Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination Costume Institute Gala - Arrivals
Zendaya in custom Versace. I’m not an actual fan of Zendaya, but this gray Versace gown inspired by Joan of Arc is like an art turned into life
Sarah Jessica Parker wearing  Dolce & Gabbana I know. She landed her spot to many articles’ Worst Dressed List but I appreciate the effort and homage to the theme. It also look like an art turned into life. I do think that the red hearts did not compliment to the gown and made it look messy.
Migos wearing Versace Suits.
Chadwick Boseman in Versace
I can’t find her on any articles, please enlighten me who this glam lady is! I love the simplicity of her look and that gold cross and black and gold clutch is to die for! ❤

I also have my “Almost, but not enough” list the title is a dead giveaway. I don’t know if these celebrities were informed about the theme, but thank goodness that they were still saved by the glory of style.

Kylie Jenner wearing Alexander Wang. Kylie may be my least favorite Kardashian / Jenner, but her and Travis is much nicer than Tyga. I also like the fact that her fashion sense slowly changes too and becoming more sophisticated, just like this one. I’m digging the silver studded shades.

Gisele Bundchen wearing Versace. I thought the overall look, brings back the 90’s golden fashion. I am seeing Claudia Schiffer in this gold gown.
Janelle Monae in Marc Jacobs. Another celebrity serving some 90’s mood. The black and white and oversized hat reminds of Grace Jones ❤
Sienna Miller is wearing Louis Vuitton. I will always be a fan of gold, sequin, a white top combined outfit so I am putting Sienna on my cute list too! This can also be a perfect day time dress. Don’t you agree?
Natalia Vodianova is wearing Balmain. Glam rock blessed by the holy trinity. I like her hair and make up too.

Anya Taylor Joy is wearing Dolce & Gabbana. Umm. I’m not sure about this, I like the sequined gown and head piece but her make up made her look twice her age. I did not even recognize her at first glance. Well, I am still in love with her so I’ll just put her in between Ha-Ha!

and now for my Worst Dressed list

Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination Costume Institute Gala
Ariana Grande Designer – Vera Wang I totally get that the gown is inspired by the ceiling of Sistine Chapel. I don’t think it was well executed and the hair styling did not help. If you will not do your own research, one would not know the story and design of the gown.
Madonna in Jean Paul Gaultier I adore Madonna, but this look reminds me of a Black Saturday gone wrong. There is just too much in this look. I do like the crown and face mask, oh the black rose too!
Cardi B in custom Moschino. If this is just the dress without the top skirt, I would have love this look. The hair is over dramatic too.

Amal Clooney in Richard Quinn *Sigh* She obviously did not get the memo. Even taking a step back from the theme, I don’t find this look appealing.
Rita Ora in Prada gown. I think there is too much going on, I would prefer a lighter color or tone for the gown and keep the head piece and hair styling as is, the yellow purse did not compliment this look. It’s actually distracting.
Shailene Woodley. Everyone sighs “Awww” when she and Ansel (Fault in our stars) reunited again in the red carpet. I admire especially with her advocacies but she seriously needed to check back with her styling team. This Ralph Lauren silver dress with ruffled cuffs and over the knee boots make her look twice her size, she doesn’t look comfortable either.
Solange Knowles in Iris Van Harpen. The only thing that I like is her head piece and what turns out as drugstore makeup. That point downward is a fashion anxiety for me.
Mindy Kaling wears Vassilis Zoulias. The cut and flow of this dress, that dark blue long gloves and the size and placement of that tiara. I wish she was sabotaged by her styling team and this look did not get any formal approval from anyone.
Sofia Coppola wears Marc Jacobs. No further comments. What the hell happened Sofia?!
I adore Kendall Jenner and I love her fashion sense ever since. I was expecting her the most for The Met, more than Kylie and Kim but this all white Virgil Abloh is O-K. Now if we are talking about The Met, O-K is not OK. Sadly, this look was somewhat forgotten in an instant. Her red carpet stint with one of her assistants made all the publicity noise instead.
Kendall: Umm. excuse you?!

Me after realizing that some of my favorites are included on my Worst Dressed List!

This year was hosted by Anna Wintour, Katy Perry, Madonna and Amal Clooney. This year is also one of the most controversial years as major backlash, hate comments and reviews in social media started surfacing not long when it airs live on TV.

I did my research via Vogue online and it was confirmed that the theme for this year was somewhat approved and supported by the Catholic Organization and even helped to get some religious figures and items that were used for the event. After all, The Met Gala is a night to raise awareness and gather funds that will benefit the restoration and stability of modern arts.

My dream of becoming a stylist keeps on growing and events like this only ignite my desire to style and dress any of my favorite Hollywood celebrities, but for now I’ll just rant what sore my eyes and praise the ones who totally get’s my vibe and style.

So, do we have the same list or agree on my best and worst dressed list?

Don’t hesitate to share yours!

Well, this has been fun! Now time to go and read online, watch TV and binge and be relevant for my next post. Ha-Ha!

Till the next!

The Moody Mina ❤
